Youth Faith Formation

Religious Education

The journey of religious education truly begins when two people dedicate their lives to each other becoming one entity with God the Father. As the blessing of children reveals the love of God through creation, the knowledge of God's love begins anew as parents prepare their children's journey to love and serve God.

The formation of a child's faith begins with parents and family members; the Catechism of the Catholic Church states at ccc. 2221, "the role of parents in education is of such importance that it is impossible to provide an adequate substitute." The priests, catechists and parental involvement will continually fortify the child's foundation with each of the sacraments and activities within the Church.

As God's faithful community, we must continue the shining light toward the path of salvation. As each child reaches for the hand of a catechist, they will listen to the spoken Word of God and reflect the Spirit of Christ. Our mission becomes the light, joy and true happiness of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The Sacraments of Initiation are Baptism, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation and begin with parent's love of God and love of their children.

When natural life begins, the foundation for the supernatural life originates at Baptism. The Gifts of the Holy Spirit at the time of Sacrament of Confirmation will strengthen the supernatural life already begun. The Sacrament of First Holy Communion will nourish the supernatural life through the Holiness of God.

Youth Ministry

St. Mary's Youth Ministry serves youth in Grades 6-12. These are critical years in the growth and formation of our youth. Sixth grade is the last year of the elementary school faith formation program however we do invite these youth to special events throughout the year. In seventh grade we begin preparing the youth for the Sacrament of Confirmation. The seventh grade Confirmation sessions are offered on Sundays from 3-5 in the afternoon. Please contact Nate for more information about Confirmation. At the beginning of the eighth grade we finish Confirmation preparation during our Sunday Youth Nights. Our youth nights are opened to all youth regardless of whether you are a full member of the Catholic Church or not; so feel free to bring friends. We generally have the Youth Nights in the Basement of Hartmann Hall after the 5:15 pm Sunday Mass from 6:15-8:30 or Wednesday nights from 6:45-8:15 throughout the school year. If things change with this time and location, as we do special events sometimes, we put that information in the bulletin, in Mass announcements or on our Facebook Page. There are many other opportunities on top of these for youth of the parish to grow in their faith and meet other catholic youth from around the city, state, country and even from around the world!

For the most up to date information about what is happening in Youth Ministry please go to our Facebook page.

We are now using the same system as the Religous Education Program for Youth Group Registration. This system will allow us to better communicate with parents and students through email, text or phone. Please refer to the Religous Education portion of this page for information on how to register.
