I am offering a reflection on “Al Partir el Pan” (“When We Eat this Bread) by Pedro Rubalcava. This is a diocesan hymn that will be introduced this weekend and reviewed throughout these fall months.
Verse 1 Every life, though broken, forms part of the body. In our humility, we recognize our own shortcomings and need to be repaired. So, also, we recognize that we are not alone. We all need each other to share in our brokenness.
Verse 4 Share the passion of the Lord and raise the cross of victory. Lay your life down for your friend; no greater love is there than this. In the gospel this Sunday, we are reminded to take up our crosses for the sake of Christ’s ultimate sacrifice for all. In our own small way, we can go the extra mile for someone else and experience a sliver of the love God has for us.
