“All the Earth” was written by Lucien Deiss in 1965, at around the time when the liturgy was being transformed into the vernacular seeking the active participation of the people. The artful scheme of Lucien was to retain the text of the introit converting it into a refrain and have verses correspond to the psalm text. This form recognizes the dialogue that accompanies the Mass throughout. In this case, the refrain is sung before and after the verses, which is ideally suited for the cantor to proclaim. This same format is used when the responsorial psalm is proclaimed. It imitates the dialogue that takes place throughout between the priest and the assembly. Therein lies the bases of meditative prayer and the acknowledgement of our ever present God who deserves all of our praise and adoration. Here is the music for the weekend.
