It has been a very windy start to spring! It reminds me of the Gospel reading for the 2
nd Tuesday of Easter from John 3, when Jesus says to Nicodemus: “The wind blows where it wills, and you can hear the sound it makes, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes; so it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”
I am convinced that the Holy Spirit is living and active in the wind. It is a reminder of the divine presence in our lives. Sometimes we need such a force to remind us to not be discouraged and to not lose heart. To keep the “wind at our back” like the lyrics of the Irish blessing suggest, we can “glide” through the many challenges we face and know the peaceful stillness when the wind dies down. This presence remains, even when the wind subsides.
The wind also reminds us of the air that the human body or the pipes of our glorious organ can produce. Anyone who sings or plays a woodwind or brass instrument can tell you how much air is needed to sing or play with proper phrasing. I think that the air needed to produce such beautiful sounds is also a reminder of the Divine presence.
As we venture through this Easter Season of 50 days, let us be reminded of the presence of the Holy Spirit and be bold proclaimers of the Good News of the Resurrection.
