Luke 1:54 “He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent away empty” The refrain of “In the Breaking of the Bread” by Timothy Smith says, “In the Breaking of the Bread, we knew him, Lord, Jesus, alleluia!”. Imagine, Jesus, the Lord of the universe, comes to us in the small communion host. He did not choose to come to us in a steak or another extravagant entrée. The Master teaches us to be rich in His grace and His love.
“My Soul is thirsting for you, O Lord, my God” is our responsorial psalm for this weekend. We thirst for the God who fills us with good things. We do not need the extras. They will never satisfy us completely. The Eucharist is the source and summit of our faith! Let us receive as often as we can so that our souls do not grow empty of His love and His grace.
