On this the 6th Sunday of Easter, in John 14:15-21, Jesus said to his disciples, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to be with you always, the Spirit of truth”. This weekend, we will sing at most Masses “Holy Spirit” by Canedo. There is an ostinato refrain: “Holy Spirit, come into our lives. Holy Spirit, make us truly wise”. An ostinato in music is a phrase that is repeated over and over again. Repetition in prayer is a great way to pray as we use the words as deep meditative prayer. Underlying this ostinato pattern will be the cantor or choir invoking the Holy Spirit. The first and second verse will be based on Isaiah 11:2, and verse three through six is based on the Sequence for Pentecost, which we will hear in two weeks. Here is the music.
