Lord Jesus, open the Scriptures to us; make our hearts burn while you speak to us. “Listen to what I am telling you, my son”. These words have been spoken to me many times throughout my life by my father. Last week, we focused on having to “see it to believe it”. This week, we focus on another sense, that is our ears. How often do you hear, but not listen? It is true that in a course of a day, much is said. Our culture is drowning with talking heads. How much do we actually absorb and take in? Jesus knew this dilemma with the human condition, and that is why He found many creative ways to get our attention. The gospel story this weekend is one of them. Jesus also finds a creative way to communicate with us through the giving of his body in the form of bread and wine and in his Word. Do we find him there? As we sing “Al Partir al Pan” again this weekend, let us reflect on the third verse, the voice of Christ speaking to us. Are we really listening to Him?
