Led by the Spirit Once again we begin this season of Lent, led by the spirit. In the words of Bob Hurd in the first verse of the hymn “Led by the Spirit”, we go to fast and pray. We go with Christ into the wilderness as we join his pascal way. We confront temptation face to face. We rely on God’s redeeming grace. We know that on bread alone we cannot live, but nourished by the Word. We seek the will of God to do: this is our drink and food. At the same time, we draw near to the waters of rebirth as this week our catechumens and candidates celebrate the Rite of Election with the bishop. We too are renewed! We recall our baptismal promises. We thirst for the living waters and we drink of the cup that sustains us. We are united by the bonds of the Spirit who brings about healing love as we attend to the poor and the forgotten.
