Ministry Weekend was held for Music Ministers and Proclaimers of the Word this past weekend.
Dr. Patti Whetstone and Gina Hughes began the weekend with Teambuilding. Participants enjoyed interacting with each other. Feedback was received from individual participants relating to goals, likes and change. For example, one participant said they liked serving the Lord and connecting with others. Another said they liked getting filled with the Holy Spirit.
Evening Prayer was prayed on the feast of St. Vincent DePaul. This form of prayer is the prayer of the Church and can be prayed by lay people as we explored in last week’s blog.
I spoke on the Fundamentals of Christian Liturgy while participants were treated to a pizza dinner.
The evening concluded with an adoration hour in the school chapel led by Fr. August Koeune. The hour included music led by Damion Aldana and his music group. It also included Scripture Reading, a short reflection, procession, exposition and benediction as well as time for silent prayer.
Saturday morning opened with Mass in the chapel, followed by a light breakfast and a session on recruiting new members to our ministry.
Carma Cora led the group in some vocal exercising that were fun and practical.
Breakout sessions were informative, interactive and pastoral in nature. In just 50 minutes, after reflecting on the readings, ministers developed themes for the 3
rd and 4
th Sunday of Advent and selected hymns that might serve these themes.
The weekend ended with a commissioning ceremony in the chapel.
Thanks to all who attended the weekend’s events participating in the ministries.
