“Whoever loves me will keep my word, says the Lord, and my Father will love him and we will come to him.” John 14:23-29
What can I do to EARN God’s love? The answer is nothing. It is not something to be earned, because God only knows Love. This is worth celebrating for this entire Easter season and for every day of our lives and through eternity. God never STOPS loving us!
What can separate us from God’s love? The answer is poor choices! Is it not true that poor choices are a part of what makes us human? On the bright side, our God is about second chances. As a matter of fact, God never gives up on us even if we give up on ourselves. In order to keep God’s word, we must love God with our whole heart. If we really love God, we will think twice before we act in a way that separates us from God’s love. In the third verse of our entrance hymn this weekend, “Alleluia! Sing to Jesus” (Hyfrydol) we sing,
“Alleluia! Here the sinful Flee to you from day to day: Intercessor, friend of sinners, Earth’s redeemer, plead for me, Where the songs of all the sinless Sweep across the crystal sea. “ This verse gives us much hope as we rely on the sacrament of reconciliation and Eucharist to wipe away sin and gives us the strength to keep God’s word more fully.
