The hymn “O Holy Mary” by Owen Alstott is a beautiful hymn acknowledging the role of the blessed Virgin Mary in salvation history.
O Holy Dwelling Place of God, O Holy Temple of the Word, O Holy Mary, Holy Mother of God! We keep the solemn feast of the Immaculate Conception as Holy Day as we observe each year this important day when Jesus was conceived without original sin in the womb of the Virgin Mary. The music for the Holy Day is as follows:
This weekend, we celebrate the 2nd Sunday of Advent with the hymn, “On Jordan’s Bank”. The text was written by Charles Coffin and translated by John Chandler to the tune WINCHESTER NEW, and found in the Musikalsches Hand-Buch, in Hamburg, Germany in 1690 and adopted by William H. Havergal (1793-1870). The third verse says, “Shine forth, and let thy light restore Our souls to heav’nly grace once more.” We are reminded that as we prepare for the coming of our savior in our hearts, we should desire to repent and turn away from anything that is keeping us from following God’s commands of love as we await our Lord’s return at the end of time. Here is the music for this weekend.
