Te Deum “To You all angels, all the powers of heaven, Cherubim and Seraphim, sing in endless praise; Holy, holy, holy, Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory.” Angels have been a big part of salvation history. The Angel Gabriel appeared to the Virgin Mary to announce to her that she was to be the mother of God. (Luke 1:26-38). At the Christmas Mass During the Night, we hear from Luke 2:13-14, “And suddenly there was a multitude of the heavenly host with the angel, praising God and saying: “Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”
At the Sunday and Solemn Eucharistic liturgy, in most seasons of the year excluding Advent and Lent, we already join the choir of angels in singing the Gloria as we prepare to hear the Word of God proclaimed at this very moment. In every Eucharistic liturgy, we are actively engaged in singing the Sanctus, prior to the priest celebrant saying the words of consecration to make once again present, the very Body and Blood, soul and divinity of our Savior. We adore, and we give thanks as we share in the banquet feast. This is the true Christmas gift, the gift of the Lord himself. Merry Christmas with the all the choirs of angels!
