Mark 10:45 Alternate Communion Antiphon for 29th Sunday in Ordinary Time The Son of Man has come to give his life as a ransom for many.
The second verse of our sending forth hymn this Sunday of “Tell the Good News” arranged by Delores Dufner reads:
Filled with the Spirit, Jesus came, Healing the sick, the blind and lame. Let every creature praise his name! Alleuia ,alleluia, alleluia!
Not one “Alleluia” is enough as we with our voices acclaim in this hymn. When Jesus read the Scripture passage from Isaiah, “God has sent me to bring news to the poor, to proclaim liberty to captives”, he meant what he said. He gave his life for us. This is worth shouting at the top of our lungs. We are freed from the bonds that hold us back. No more, must we be weighed down by the oppression of this present life. We have the hope of the life to come! Our confirmandi share this hope this weekend as the confer the promises made at their baptism. When we make our profession of faith, we call to mind the truths of our faith. We commit ourselves to these promises to reject sin and evil, and to make an effort to rid ourselves of anything that separates us from God’s love. In psalm 121 verse 7 and 8 from the psalter for this weekend says, “The Lord will guard you from all evil; he will guard your life. The Lord will guard your coming and going both now and forever”. Let us be aware of God’s protection always and forever.
