Having lived in an Italian extended family for so long, I am always consciously aware of the joy of eating a great Italian meal surrounded by family with good conversation. It is a way we have remained present to each other. It is what Karen and I hope to pass on to our daughter and for generations to come. Somehow, being present to one another overrides those extravagant meals and never-ending celebrations. As Jesus reminds the people in today’s continuation of the Eucharistic discourse, there is much more to our existence besides satisfying our physical hunger. Jesus provides to us the bread that is eternal as he feeds us with His very self. The hymn, “I am the Bread of Life” by Steve Angrisano serves as a great reflection: “I am who am, I am for you, come and follow me”. Here is the music to be presented at most Masses this weekend.
