In the refrain of the hymn, “The Lord, hears the Cry of the Poor”, by John Foley, we hear,
“The Lord, hears the cry of the poor. Blessed be the Lord.”
This hymn will be used at most Masses this weekend.
On this World Day of the Hungry, we are reminded of so many that go hungry and have so little. All of the poor are loved by God and are blessed in God’s sight. The cry of the poor is heard! How well do I attend to the cry of the poor? Sadly, my answer to this question would be not enough. What could I do that I am not doing? I do not need to look too far to find someone in need. Am I willing to attend to them in some small way? God amazes me with what I can do with a caring heart. Is praying for the poor enough? Am I willing to take the risk?
