Words of Refrain by Bob Hurd states, “Transfigure Us, O Lord, transfigure us, O Lord, Break the chains that bind us; speak your healing word, and where you lead we’ll follow. Transfigure Us, O Lord. “
What are the chains that binds you? What is your plan for releasing those chains this Lent? I can think of many chains that bind me from God’s love. Indeed as St. Paul describes it in his letter to the Philippians Chapter 3, my mind is occupied by earthly things. The battle to release myself from these chains is not easy. It is a small step operation. There is great joy to experience the release. One way is by admitting to the chains in individual reconciliation especially in this season of Lent.
Do we trust in the healing words the priest utters to us when receiving the blessed sacrament? “The Body of Christ”. Do we really believe and want to be transformed into a better imitator of the one who enters our soul? I often ask myself, what is holding me back from surrendering myself completely to God. One day, at a time I least expect, I will come face to face with death, as we all will. At that moment, will I be ready to enter into the embrace of God for eternity?
