The responsorial psalm for the Masses this weekend is from Psalm 69, and it has the familiar voice of a faithful person who is in “afflicted and in pain” but who ultimately is hopeful. That is all of us, who at some time experience pain. The final verse of exhorts us to seek God, who will save Zion and rebuild the cities of Judah for those who love his name. That is the Old Testament message that urges us to open our hearts and turn to God for protection and salvation.
Then from the New Testament comes a different exhortation in the song we sing as we leave Mass this weekend. With Jesus’ resurrection on Easter, Zion has been saved, and the hymn tells us to “Tell the good news to all the earth.” As we have opened our hearts, as we believe the promise of Psalm 69 fulfilled, and as we are filled with the Spirit, we go forth to let every land know the Gospel. Let us begin a new week by living our lives with the joy of the Good News of Jesus, who reveals our human worth. We are the Good News of salvation to all we will encounter this week, including those who are afflicted and in pain. Tell the Good News. -Marguerite Herman, cantor Here is the music to be presented this weekend. https://bit.ly/3NDZALL July 9 and 10 Hymns
