Why do we gather together at Mass? Wouldn’t it just be easier to pray at home in quiet? We gather together at Mass, because we need one another in this faith journey. We recognize our oneness as God’s adopted sons and daughters. We surrender to God’s unrelenting love, and with grateful hearts, extend that love to all we meet. We recognize our need to be nourished by the word of God and the need for the Eucharist. We offer back to God our inadequate selves, broken and need of healing. We visit the Lord who is alive in the Eucharistic presence and in the entire Body.
As we sing the text of “We Gather Together” by Theodore Baker (1851-1934), let us take heed of the words of the second verse, “Beside us to guide us, our God with us joining, Whose kingdom calls all to the love which endures. “
Also, this weekend, consider coming to our organ concert offering at 2 p.m. on Sunday in the Cathedral. This can be a well needed time to rest in the Lord, while listening to the beautiful sound of the organ presented by our guest artist, Aga.
