“Even now, says the Lord, return to me with your whole heart, for I am gracious and merciful.” “The Jesus Song: Jesus have mercy. Jesus I trust in you.” “The Jesus Song,” which will be sung at the Masses April 2-3 at St. Mary’s, is striking in its simple expression of the prayer that should be our response to the invitation in this Scripture. Jesus invites us always and especially during Lent to return to Him. He is gracious and merciful. What is our response? To come to Jesus in prayer, seeking mercy and trusting that He welcomes us with mercy and grace. Contained in those simple words of The Jesus Song is prayer that I know I need His mercy for the things I do to damage my relationship with God. Then is the faithful statement that Jesus always welcomes me with that mercy and the grace to do better. -Marguerite Herman, cantor
