The scripture for the Most Precious Body and Blood of Christ proclaims the true presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. Reading 1 from Genesis shows us the foreshadowing when Melchizedek, king of Salem, brought out bread and wine. He blessed Abram with these words: "Blessed be Abram by God Most High, the creator of heaven and earth.” Reading 2 from 1 Corinthians at the Last Supper, Jesus being a priest of God Most High on the night was handed over, took bread and had given thanks, broke bread and gave wine. This is Jesus “body” and “blood”. In the Gospel Reading from Luke, Jesus multiplies the loaves and fish. Jesus has so many ways to bless us and a bounty of so much more. All of our spiritual and earthly needs are taken care of from Heaven, and have an abundance left over to fill us.
The Mass parts come to life…”Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of Hosts”, ”We Eat This Bread and Drink this Cup”, and “Lamb of God, You Take Away the Sins of the World”. Perfection is the Acclamation…“I am the living bread that came down from heaven, says the Lord; whoever eats this bread will live forever.” Take special attention to our Entrance Hymn, “At the Lamb’s High Feast”. The verses are filled with Jesus body and blood, and “we sing with sincerity and love, eat we manna from above” and “Risen Lord, all praise to thee”.
Coming to believe in Jesus presence in the Eucharist comes with time, trust, studying scripture and daily prayer/conversation with Jesus. Let’s ask God to help us understand this mystery…and encourage our Catholic brothers and sisters to continue to reflect on this mystery…and trust. Lord, take off the scales of our eyes and heart to see the richness that you have for us.

Here is the music to be presented at most Masses this weekend. Even though, we will not be singing or reciting the sequence at Mass, it is worth the time to read these beautiful words from St. Thomas Aquinas. In this year of Revival of the Eucharist, we invite you to join us for an adoration hour Sunday, June 19 at 3 p.m. in the Cathedral.
