Te Deum Part 5 You, Christ are the king of glory, The eternal Son of the Father.
As we utter these words in the Te Deum, do we mean what we say, and do we believe this with all our being? Will we abandon all our missteps and follow as did John the Baptist, Andrew, and Peter in this weekend’s gospel from John 1:35-42? If Jesus were to ask us, “What are you looking for?”, as he questioned Andrew and Peter, what will be our response? Will we respond as did Andrew and Peter with a question for Jesus, “where are you staying?”. Will you listen to Jesus’ answer, “Come, and you will see?”
What is it in our lives that keeps us from acknowledging Jesus as the Christ? What prevents us from spending time with him by attending Mass weekly if not daily? What prevents us from spending time with him in an hour devotion each week in front of the blessed sacrament? It is difficult to know what Jesus wants from us, if we don’t take time to listen to the Master teacher as Samuel did in the first reading this weekend (1 Samuel 3:3b-10, 19) Why should we listen to him and follow his call?
The refrain of the song “Jesus, My Everything” by Matt Maher, gives an answer. “’Cause you are my everything, you are the song I sing; I’ll do anything for you. Teach me how to pray, to live a life of grace; I’ll go anywhere with you. Jesus, be my everything.”
