This weekend, we are reminded of our connectedness to the universal church in the celebration of the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica in Rome. The Gospel Acclamation for this celebration is taken from 2 Chronicles 7:16. It reads:
I have chosen and consecrated this house, says the Lord, that my name may be there forever.
The fact that we have each been chosen by God to be His adopted sons and daughters, should give us great hope. We have been chosen to be members of God’s holy Church by receiving baptism. The second reading from the first letter of Saint Paul to the Corinthians Chapter 3 reminds us that we “are the temple of God”, and the Spirit of God dwells in us. Therefore, we are the Body of Christ. If this is the case, we should treat one another as we would treat Christ, with intentional love.
