Reflection for 29th Sunday The lesson of the Gospel is very clear, providing both an illustration and then an explicit expression of the importance of humility and service. This runs against the imperative we get from our culture to achieve monetary success, power and prominence without paying too much attention to ethics and honesty and kindness and mercy and the prime directive of serving others. Contrary to the measure of “success” we get from culture and politics, Jesus advises, “Rather, whoever wishes to be great among you will be your servant.” THAT is being Christ-like. This is difficult, contradicting the latest advice from Instagram. However, we are told to trust in the Lord and to follow the example of Christ in the Gospel, to be kind and merciful and to serve without seeking elevation. That is living our faith. We have opportunities all the time to be kind and merciful and to serve. Can we spend the next week being especially aware of those opportunities and responding as Christ taught? -Marguerite Herman, cantor
Thank you for all of those who attended the organ concert last Sunday with Damin Spritzer. Here is the music to be presented at most Masses this weekend. As we kickoff the synod at the diocesan level the color for today is Red with a votive Mass to the Holy Spirit. The second reading will be Philippians 2:1-4 and will not be found in the hymnal. Let us pray for communion of mission through this three year process.
