We continue our series on Hope with the God of Faith.
God of Faith: In the hymn “In His Temple We Behold Him”, the words written by Henry L. Pye (1825-1903) in the second verse reads, “While his aged saints adore him, Ere in faith and hope they die.” This weekend, we celebrate the Presentation of the Lord in the Temple. This solemn feast day trumps the 4th Sunday in Ordinary Time. The elderly Simeon is in the temple the day Jesus is presented in the temple. He utters his profound words in faith, “….my eyes have seen your salvation” (Luke 2). Faith is the springboard to hope. How can one hope without faith? In my estimation, this two theological virtues go hand in hand. There are many faithful elderly in our families and parish. Let us learn from these how to “wait in joyful hope for the coming our Savior, Jesus Christ”, as the priest prays on our behalf at every Mass, and let us do this each day!
