By: Jonathan Long This week’s gospel acclamation says, “You have received a spirit of adoption through which we cry, “Abba, Father.”” God has adopted us as His children. Now, we know that every good father wants to give good gifts to his children. In the second verse of the responsorial psalm it talks about asking for a request: “I called for the Lord all day and night long.” God will grant the requests that are good for us… at a time when it is good for us. If we persistently ask Him for our request, He may give us it. Have you ever given a friend their request because they were persistent in asking? To summarize, I will use a quote from the gospels. Jesus asks us, “If you, who are wicked, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to you?” Matthew 7:18
By: Joshua Long God adopts us as his children and wants to lead us to eternal life with Him in heaven. He helps us even though we are sinful. That is amazing love. God loves to listen to our prayers, and He grants us what we ask for — if it is good for us. Ask, and it will be given to you (Matthew 7:7). Sometimes people have to pray for years before God answers their prayers. St. Monica prayed for 17 years before the conversion of her son, St. Augustine. What’s the longest you’ve ever prayed for something?
