More Advent Music and the Image of St. John the Baptist
As we draw into the second and third week of Advent, one of the key figures is John the Baptist. John the Baptist was the “voice crying out in the wilderness, prepare the way of the Lord”. He pronounced that he must “decrease” so
He may “increase”. He recognized his unworthiness and did this with great humility, even though he was not ashamed to shout, “Repent and believe in the Good News” as described in the book of the prophet Isaiah.
Do we as musicians and God’s people understand our role in salvation history? Can we be great proclaimers and at the same time be humble enough to recognize our unworthiness in delivering the message?
Advent calls us to recognize our humanness and call to conversion. It also calls us to service and connects us more closely to the work of Christ Body, that is the Church.
In this season of introspection and preparation, please consider listening to and learning more of the music of this season to be presented at Mass, so we can all sing as One Body of Christ. By listening to the recordings, and singing along with them, you will be more confident in singing these wonderful hymns at our Eucharistic celebrations of Advent.
