Andrew Unsworth, Mormon Tabernacle choir organist, performed a delightful concert in the cathedral Sunday afternoon to an appreciative socially distant group of about 80 people. The program included some of Andrew’s own arrangements and compositions along with music of Bach and Vierne.
The 28th annual event was dedicated to a beloved former pastor, Fr. Carl Beavers, who passed away suddenly this past summer. Fr. Beavers oversaw the installation of the Visser-Rowland organ in 1992. Several of the original members of the Organ Concert Series committee and supporters were in the audience including Connie Janney, Carol Ann Strader and Bill Dubois. Members of the original committee included: Lynn Applegate, Bob David, Will Kallel, Mary McCartney, Carol Ann Strader, Jennifer and Larry Wolfe and Arlene Zumbrun.
The concert included a live video feed provided by Cris and Alaina Neimann. The video feed allowed experience the beauty in both a visual and auditory way.
Dr. Sloan and Anna Marie Hales were gracious host to the committee and to Andrew, treating the OCS Committee and Andrew Unsworth to breakfast at their Hereford Ranch home East of Cheyenne.
As chair of the Organ Concert Series, I, Patrick Stolz, music director, thank committee members, Julie Bolin, Stephanie Barth, Betsy Taggart, Anna Marie Hales, Marguerite Herman, and Neil O’ Donnell.
Jim Steinborn, our organ technician, is appreciated for his diligent work in maintaining our organ.
Thank you to our donors for making it possible to offer this concert series each year. Without your continual support, we would not be able to offer this free cultural event to our community each year.
With this superior musical instrument comes occasional major cleaning every 20 years. This entails complete inspection of all moving parts and valves with all pipes being disassembled and then reassembled. These cleanings are an important part of making these concerts possible. Please consider a donation to the long term care of this incredible instrument. The cost of cleaning is $35,000.
