In Psalm 47:14-15, we hear, “He has granted peace in your borders, with the best of wheat he fills you. He sends forth his command to the earth; swiftly runs his Word. The peace which the Lord provides is an inner peace that lives within our every being. This peace can be shared. It is often conveyed with a smile, a warm hand shake or a listening ear. As I chomp on a bagel as I write this today, I am reminded about what it feels like to be hungry. I am grateful for the food that satisfies my hunger. Our world hungers for lasting food, the Bread of eternal life. Unlike the bread that temporarily satisfied, the Bread of Heaven sustains us much longer. The Bread of life can satisfy us always, if we desire and receive often. This Bread of Life stays with us. The Bread of Life nourishes us. Strengthened by the Bread of Life, we can spread the Good News to everyone we encounter in and outside our church doors. We become more in touch with the reason why it is important to gather each Sunday as we break open the scriptures and partake in the Eucharistic bread. Like the early Christians we can exclaim, “ Praise the Lord, Jerusalem, alleluia! “
